SUMMARY:Library Display: IBBY Collection for Young People with Disabilities
DESCRIPTION:IBBY Collection on Display at the Japan Foundation Toronto Library \nThe Japan Foundation Toronto Library is proud to share a new exhibit in conjunction with the North York Central Branch of the Toronto Public Library. A selection of items in Japanese from the IBBY Collection for Young People with Disabilities comes to us on loan from January 19 through February 27 from the TPL’s North York Central Library. \nThe mission of IBBY (International Board on Books for Young People) is to promote international understanding through children’s books\, and to give children everywhere the opportunity to have access to books with high literary and artistic standards. The collection housed by the TPL includes colourful cloth books\, braille items\, and interactive materials – some of which match titles currently offered at the Japan Foundation Toronto Library. It also includes quality books written for\, by\, and about children and teens with physical\, developmental\, intellectual and language disabilities. \nEvery two years the IBBY Documentation Centre selects approximately 50 titles from around the world as part of the “Outstanding Books for Young People with Disabilities” showcase. All of the Japanese-language items from North York Central Library’s collection that have Outstanding status are part of the temporary exhibition at JFT. In total\, we will be showcasing 40 Japanese-language IBBY items in the library for a period of six weeks. Please see the Library Displays section of our website for more details on visiting and viewing this very special collection! \n\nIBBY Collection at North York Central Library \nInternational Board on Books for Young People \nIBBY Canada \nJBBY Japanese Section of IBBY

SUMMARY:January Movies: Seven Weeks
DESCRIPTION:Seven Weeks\n野のなななのか\nReservations are now closed. Thank you for your interest. \nDir. Nobuhiko Obayashi\, 2014\, 171 min.\nIn Japanese with English subtitles\nThe latest from veteran director Obayashi (Hausu) merges drama and fantasy in a 3-hour experimental opus that delves into themes of life and death\, family and friendship\, war and peace. \nRelatives gather from afar in wintery Ashibetsu upon the death of patriarch Mitsuo (Shinagawa Toru). A mysterious woman named Nobuko (Tokiwa Takako) suddenly shows up. Her appearance gradually exposes wartime secrets and Mitsuo’s unknown past. Building on his previous film Casting Blossoms to the Sky\, Obayashi focuses on the border between life and death and brings to light an untold war story that was hidden within a family. \n  \n
