SUMMARY:Library Display: IBBY Collection for Young People with Disabilities
DESCRIPTION:IBBY Collection on Display at the Japan Foundation Toronto Library \nThe Japan Foundation Toronto Library is proud to share a new exhibit in conjunction with the North York Central Branch of the Toronto Public Library. A selection of items in Japanese from the IBBY Collection for Young People with Disabilities comes to us on loan from January 19 through February 27 from the TPL’s North York Central Library. \nThe mission of IBBY (International Board on Books for Young People) is to promote international understanding through children’s books\, and to give children everywhere the opportunity to have access to books with high literary and artistic standards. The collection housed by the TPL includes colourful cloth books\, braille items\, and interactive materials – some of which match titles currently offered at the Japan Foundation Toronto Library. It also includes quality books written for\, by\, and about children and teens with physical\, developmental\, intellectual and language disabilities. \nEvery two years the IBBY Documentation Centre selects approximately 50 titles from around the world as part of the “Outstanding Books for Young People with Disabilities” showcase. All of the Japanese-language items from North York Central Library’s collection that have Outstanding status are part of the temporary exhibition at JFT. In total\, we will be showcasing 40 Japanese-language IBBY items in the library for a period of six weeks. Please see the Library Displays section of our website for more details on visiting and viewing this very special collection! \n\nIBBY Collection at North York Central Library \nInternational Board on Books for Young People \nIBBY Canada \nJBBY Japanese Section of IBBY

SUMMARY:2015 Kabuki Talk Series: Talk II
DESCRIPTION:The Japan Foundation\, Toronto presents five Talk + DVD presentations by Program Officer Toshi Aoyagi to enhance your enjoyment of the upcoming Cinema Kabuki screenings\, Feb. 28 & March 1 at the TIFF Bell Lightbox. \n\nKabuki Talk II\nFriday\, February 20\, 6:30 pm\nLion Dance by Female Characters \nKabuki Talk III\nMonday\, February 23\, 6:30 pm\nLion Dance by Male Characters \nA number of Kabuki pieces called Shishi-mono form one of the major parts of the dance repertoire. A woman\, such as a princess or courtesan\, is transformed by the sacred animal\, and becomes a heroic\, ferocious figure. But sometimes male figures dominate the pieces\, focusing attention on father-son relationships. The two talks are about the excitement and diversity of Lion Dances. \n
