SUMMARY:(Re)Making Sense of Kanji Part II: Practical Workshop For Learners Who Use Chinese Characters in Their Native Language
DESCRIPTION:(Re)Making Sense of Kanji Part II: Practical Workshop For Learners Who Use Chinese Characters in Their Native Language\n  \n \nWhen we are already using Chinese characters in our native language\, it is easy to fall into the habit of treating Japanese Kanji just like we do in Chinese. This does not always work though\, because while there are certainly many things in common\, there are also many differences that someone who knows Chinese characters should keep in mind to really master the language.\nJoin us in this thought-provoking and practical workshop\, where we will dig deep into and practice different ways to think of\, organize\, and learn Japanese Kanji effectively\, taking into account what you already know from Chinese. \nA continuation of our Kanji seminar in February\, this workshop will take you one step further as you deepen your understanding of Kanji as it is used in Japanese\, expand on what you previously learned\, and engage in practical applications to optimize your learning.\n*Attendance of the previous seminar is not a requirement; we will briefly review relevant points from the previous seminar where necessary. \n\nSaturday July 13 | Online | 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm EDT | Simple Japanese & English \nRegister at the bottom of this page by Friday July 12. This workshop is now full. Anyone who registers moving forward will be automatically added to a waitlist. Thank you for your interest! \n\n\nIn this workshop you will…\n\nGain a deeper understanding of Kanji knowledge that will aid your learning\, designed for those who have prior knowledge of Chinese characters.\nExperience and learn practical methods you can apply on your own to focus your learning and expand and organize your Kanji knowledge.\nLearn how to utilize online tools to to be able to better remember\, use\, and understand more Kanji and its usage in Japanese. \nAnd more!\n\n\n\n\nTarget audience: Japanese language learners from anywhere in Canada who:\n\n\n\nUse Chinese characters in their native language\, and\nHave at least Late-Elementary Japanese language proficiency\, defined as:\n\nJF Standard Late-Elementary (A2-2)\, or\nJLPT N4/N5 level\, Late-Beginner\, Level 3 Japanese or equivalent\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n*Due to the practical nature of this workshop\, joining from a computer is highly recommended. You will also require a camera and microphone to participate.\n*preference will be given to JFT students \n\n\n\n\nIf you do not use Chinese characters/Kanji in your native language:\nClick here to jump to our other Kanji workshop instead\, on the same day at 3 pm ET! \n\n\n\n\nCost: Free\nQuota: 20 participants maximum\nInstructor: Dr. Ikuko Komuro-Lee\, Associate Professor at the University of Toronto’s Department of East Asian Studies\nWith her primary research field being Kanji\, Dr. Komuro-Lee has conducted several workshops\, lectures\, and publications on learning and teaching Kanji\, as well as kanji vocabulary education for those who use Chinese characters in their native language.\n\nRegister Here \n\nFor inquiries: Please contact  koza_jftoronto@jpf.go.jp
