SUMMARY:Cinema Japonais: RADIANCE @Alliance Francaise
DESCRIPTION:Cinema JAPONAIS: Thursday Movies @Alliance Francaise\nCo-presented by The Japan Foundation\, Toronto and the Alliance Francaise \n@ Alliance Francaise\, SPADINA THEATRE\, 24 Spadina Rd. \nfree admission\, no reservations required   \nRADIANCE 光\nThursday May 30th\, 2019 7:30 PM\n \nDirected by Naomi Kawase\, 2017\n101 minutes\, Japanese with English subtitles\nRadiance is the stunning new film by director Naomi Kawase. The film is a beautiful drama about an encounter between two lost and wounded souls. Misako (Ayame Misaki) is able to capture the beauty of cinema through her words\, and shares this special gift by writing concise audio descriptions of films for the visually impaired. \nThe photographer Nakamori (Masatoshi Nagase) is going through a difficult point in life as he gradually loses his sight. The two are brought together as Misako’s cinematic poetry helps to shine light through the film and slowly win the hearts of the two main characters. \nRadiance was nominated for the Palme d’Or at the 2017 Cannes. At Cannes\, it won the Prize of the Ecumenical Jury. \nOther critically acclaimed films directed by Naomi Kawase are;  Shara (2003)\, The Mourning Forest (Jury Grand Prix\, 2007)\, Hanezu (2011)\, Still the Water (2014) and Sweet Bean (Un Certain Regard 2015). \nTo learn about other films DIRECTED BY JAPANESE WOMEN click here > \n
