SUMMARY:Marugoto Teaching Material Project: 1. Project outline explanation\, project member decision
\nまるごと中級1（B1）概要説明：https://www.marugoto.org/about/ \n想定される対象学習者：成人、大学生など \n資料集サンプル： \n\n中級１　トピック１：https://tr.jpf.go.jp/wp-content/uploads/資料集サンプル　中級1　トピックpdf\n\nプロジェクト参加条件：１．２．の両日にご参加可能なカナダ在住の日本語教師の方々 \nJFTスタッフ：呉屋　由郁子、齋藤　典子 \nお問い合わせ先：齋藤　典子　nsaito@jftor.org \n\nMarugoto Teaching Material Project\nIn order to make it easier to use Marugoto textbooks in Canadian Japanese-language education\, we are planning a project to create a collection of materials to be used as a reference by teachers. Our aim is that this “Reference Collection” will be useful in both synchronous and asynchronous online classes through bringing together useful digital resources\, videos\, etc. that can be used with the Marugoto textbooks. \nThis current project will target materials to use with Marugoto Intermediate B1\, specifically. Topics/sections of the textbook will be divided amongst the project members\, and each group or person will create a “Resource Collection” for the section they are tasked with. Examples of materials are convenient websites used by the project members or self-made teaching materials. Something made specifically for this project is also welcome! We hope that this can be an opportunity for teachers to bring together useful resources they can use in their own classrooms. The final collection will also be shared on our website so it can be used by everyone in the future. \nOn August 8 we will have a session to explain the outline of the project before we ask individuals to confirm their participation\, so please feel free to join us if you are interested. \nWe look forward to meeting teachers interested in joining our Maruguto Teaching Material Project! \nDate and Time: \n1. SUMMARY:Manga Hokusai Manga: Approaching the Master's Compendium from the Perspective of Contemporary Comics
DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to announce that the JFT Gallery will reopen from Thursday\, July 23\, 2020. The health and safety of our guests and staff members is our primary concern. The Yonge street entrance is closed\nElevator access to the 3rd floor is limited\, you must be accompanied by JFT staff. Instructions on how to contact JFT staff will be in the booking confirmation\n\n\nManga Hokusai Manga:\n\n\n\nApproaching the Master’s Compendium from the Perspective of Contemporary Comics\n\n\n\n\n\n「マンガ・北斎・漫画」展 — 現代日本マンガから見た『北斎漫画』\n\n\n\nJuly 23 – September 18\, 2020 (extended dates!)\nIn light of Japan’s contemporary comics and their global proliferation\, the 19th-century Hokusai Manga is attracting increasing interest. Fans worldwide tend to even regard this pictorial compendium by ukiyo-e artist Katsushika Hokusai as the origin of today’s manga. But the outward appearance of these two types of manga does not immediately suggest a continuous tradition. Do present-day graphic narratives and the master’s “diverse drawings” share anything other than a name? Unlike past exhibitions of Hokusai’s work\, Manga Hokusai Manga approaches the Hokusai Manga from the perspective of contemporary Japanese comics\, focusing on genre\, pictorial storytelling and participatory culture rather than the integration of word and image or the role of popular characters. And instead of aiming at a historiographic verification of influences\, the exhibition invites viewers to ponder their own notions about manga by comparing works from different periods while exploring the diversity therein. Jaqueline Berndt Professor\, Manga/Comics Theory\, Kyoto Seika University.   \n\nTo book a visit to see this exhibition\, please take a look at the guidelines and acknowledgement page here. SUMMARY:From The Portapak to The Aniputer: Experimentation and Exchange in Early Japanese Video Art
DESCRIPTION:In February of 1972\, the Sony Showroom in Tokyo’s Ginza district hosted “Video Communication: D.I.Y. Kit\,” commonly considered the first exhibition of video art in Japan. Organized in part by Canadian artist Michael Goldberg\, a founding member of Vancouver’s long-running video art centre VIVO\, the interactive event encapsulated several defining elements of early Japanese video art: transnational collaboration\, support from adventurous technological corporations\, and formal creativity. \nInformed by research recently conducted through a Japan Foundation fellowship\, this presentation outlines the role of collaboration and experimentation in the first two decades of Japanese video art — particularly the fruitful exchanges of technology\, workshops\, and artworks between Japan and Canada — as seen through work by Japanese artists and collectives such as Video Earth Tokyo\, Video Hiroba\, and Keigo Yamamoto\, as well as the conceptually connected work of Vancouver-based contemporaries Goldberg\, Taki Bluesinger\, and more. \n\nThis is an exclusively online event. Prior registration is required. A secure link to the lecture will be sent to the registered email address 24 hours before the start of the event.\n\n\nJesse Cumming is a freelance curator\, researcher\, and writer based in Toronto\, Canada. He has curated\, co-curated\, and presented programs with The Museum of Modern Art\, Anthology Film Archives\, The Musée des Beaux Arts Montreal\, Collectif Jeune Cinéma\, Art Toronto\, Concordia University\, The City of Vancouver Archives\, and more. From 2014 to 2016 he contributed to Toronto experimental film and media programming collective Pleasure Dome and from 2016 to 2019 served as a Programming Associate with the Toronto International Film Festival. His writing has appeared in Cinema Scope\, The Brooklyn Rail\, Hyperallergic\, Canadian Art\, Prefix Photo\, MUBI Notebook\, NECSUS Journal\, Filmmaker\, and more. He presently sits on the steering committee of the Toronto Film & Media Seminar and is a founding collective member of MICE Magazine\, a web and print publication dedicated to Moving Image Culture\, Etc. In 2016 he established Vertical Features\, a screening series dedicated to experimental non-fiction film and video.

In 1959\, Yasujiro Ozu remade his 1934 silent classic A Story of Floating Weeds in color with the celebrated cinematographer Kazuo Miyagawa (Rashomon\, Ugetsu). Setting his later version in a seaside location\, Ozu otherwise preserves the details of his elegantly simple plot wherein an aging actor returns to a small town with his troupe and reunites with his former lover and illegitimate son\, a scenario that enrages his current mistress and results in heartbreak for all. Together\, the films offer a unique glimpse into the evolution of one of cinema’s greatest directors. A Story of Floating Weeds reveals Ozu in the midst of developing his mode of expression; Floating Weeds reveals his distinct style at its pinnacle. In each\, the director captures the joy and sadness in everyday life.   RETURN TO LIST OF ALL FILMS IN THIS SERIES >    Co-Presented by:
