SUMMARY:Continuing Learning Japanese 31: Japanese Language Courses at Seneca College
\n担当：\n国際交流基金トロント日本文化センター　　齋藤典子\nE-mail: nsaito@jftor.org     Web site: www.jftor.org\nCAJLE　小室リー郁子\nE-mail: ikuko.komuro.lee@utoronto.ca           Web site: www.cajle.info \n  \nInformation Exchange Meeting for Japanese Language Teachers:\nContinuing Learning Japanese 31\nCanadian Association for Japanese Language Education (CAJLE)\nThe Japan Foundation\, Toronto \nJapanese is taught at several secondary schools in Toronto and its surrounding areas. Yet\, it appears that teachers do not know much about the other institutions\, courses or programmes. This lack of understanding can sometimes be found even within the same institution. We believe that it is very important and necessary for teachers to know what their current students have previously studied and in what type of environment that education took place. Similarly\, it is important to be informed of the available learning opportunities for students who wish to continue studying Japanese.  We believe it is essential for teachers to build a strong and active network that enables them to communicate with one another. Since December 2009\, the Canadian Association for Japanese Language Education (CAJLE) and the Japan Foundation\, Toronto have been co-organizing events to build a good foundation for the articulation of Japanese language education. \nFor the 31st event of the series\, we will introduce Japanese language courses at Seneca College. Please register using the form below. \nDate and Time: Saturday\, July 4\, 2020  2:00 pm to 3:15 pm (EDT)\n　　　Click here to confirm the time in the region you live in.\n　　　Zoom meeting accessible from 1:30 pm\n　　　＊The Zoom Meeting ID will be sent to participants 2 hours before the event starts\, so please make sure to register before then. \nSchedule: \n1. SUMMARY:From The Portapak to The Aniputer: Experimentation and Exchange in Early Japanese Video Art
DESCRIPTION:In February of 1972\, the Sony Showroom in Tokyo’s Ginza district hosted “Video Communication: D.I.Y. Kit\,” commonly considered the first exhibition of video art in Japan. Organized in part by Canadian artist Michael Goldberg\, a founding member of Vancouver’s long-running video art centre VIVO\, the interactive event encapsulated several defining elements of early Japanese video art: transnational collaboration\, support from adventurous technological corporations\, and formal creativity. \nInformed by research recently conducted through a Japan Foundation fellowship\, this presentation outlines the role of collaboration and experimentation in the first two decades of Japanese video art — particularly the fruitful exchanges of technology\, workshops\, and artworks between Japan and Canada — as seen through work by Japanese artists and collectives such as Video Earth Tokyo\, Video Hiroba\, and Keigo Yamamoto\, as well as the conceptually connected work of Vancouver-based contemporaries Goldberg\, Taki Bluesinger\, and more. \n\nThis is an exclusively online event. Prior registration is required. A secure link to the lecture will be sent to the registered email address 24 hours before the start of the event.\n\n\nJesse Cumming is a freelance curator\, researcher\, and writer based in Toronto\, Canada. He has curated\, co-curated\, and presented programs with The Museum of Modern Art\, Anthology Film Archives\, The Musée des Beaux Arts Montreal\, Collectif Jeune Cinéma\, Art Toronto\, Concordia University\, The City of Vancouver Archives\, and more.
