DESCRIPTION:Architectural Photography Exhibition\n「構築環境-もうひとつの日本ガイド」建築写真展\nThe exhibition features 80 examples of buildings\, civil engineering works and landscapes\, etc.\, from all of the prefectures in Japan\, which are introduced through photographs\, text and video images. It presents a rarely considered aspect of Japan\, taking the built environment of the various regions of a country that is geographically diverse and often struck by natural disasters\, with the aim of examining how Japanese people have engaged and struggled with the natural environment and how they have carried on and created locality. \n日本の各都道府県に現存する建築、土木、ランドスケープなど80 点を取り上げ、写真とテキストと映像で紹介する。地理的に多様で、多くの自然災害に見舞われてきた日本において、人々が自然環境とどのように対話し格闘してきたか、どのように地域性を継承し創造してきたかという観点から、日本各地の建造物を取り上げる。従来あまり紹介されてこなかった日本の一面を紹介する、「もうひとつの日本ガイド」。 \n\nNotice: Limited Access for This Exhibition \nDue to the installation layout\, hallway space for this exhibition is limited\, which may make access challenging for wheelchair users and those with mobility equipment. Thank you for your understanding! \nFree admission. Register below. \n\nDirector Profile: \n \nHAMAGUCHI Ryusuke is one of the most acclaimed contemporary filmmakers in Japan\, known for his intimate explorations of human relationships. A graduate of Tokyo University and the Tokyo University of the Arts’ graduate film program\, Hamaguchi started gaining attention in his home country with the graduate film Passion (2008). He went on to gain international recognition with Happy Hour (2015)\, a quietly monumental five-hour portrait of four women navigating personal upheaval. \nHis breakout continued with Asako I & II (2018)\, which competed for the Palme d’Or at Cannes\, and was followed by Wheel of Fortune and Fantasy (2021)\, which won the Silver Bear Grand Jury Prize at the Berlinale. That same year\, Drive My Car premiered to widespread acclaim\, winning Best Screenplay at Cannes and the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film. Drive My Car was the first Japanese film to receive a Best Picture nomination\, and Hamaguchi became the third Japanese director to be nominated for an Oscar for Best Director. \n\n \n  \n

DESCRIPTION:Architectural Photography Exhibition\n「構築環境-もうひとつの日本ガイド」建築写真展\nThe exhibition features 80 examples of buildings\, civil engineering works and landscapes\, etc.\, from all of the prefectures in Japan\, which are introduced through photographs\, text and video images. DESCRIPTION:Architectural Photography Exhibition\n「構築環境-もうひとつの日本ガイド」建築写真展\nThe exhibition features 80 examples of buildings\, civil engineering works and landscapes\, etc.\, from all of the prefectures in Japan\, which are introduced through photographs\, text and video images. DESCRIPTION:Japanese Tadoku Book Club にほんご多読会\n \nLet’s enjoy reading in Japanese and talk about the book! \n \nSaturday June 21 | 10:00 am – 11:30 am EDT | In Person @ The Japan Foundation\, Toronto – Event Hall \nWhat is “Tadoku”? \nThe word “ta” (多) means “a lot” and “doku” (読) means “to read”\, so “tadoku” literally means “read-a-lot”. You can read books suitable to your reading level at your own pace. Start with easy books you can enjoy without using a dictionary! \nWe will begin with a 10-minute guidance session on how to start tadoku. Following that\, you will have 50 minutes of silent reading. Finally\, you will be divided into small groups to share about the books you read\, either in English or Japanese\, for 25 minutes. \nRegistration Deadline: Thursday June 19\, while spots are available \nParticipation Requirements:　Basic Japanese proficiency preferred\, but those who don’t speak Japanese but are interested in learning Japanese are also welcome. DESCRIPTION:Architectural Photography Exhibition\n「構築環境-もうひとつの日本ガイド」建築写真展\nThe exhibition features 80 examples of buildings\, civil engineering works and landscapes\, etc.\, from all of the prefectures in Japan\, which are introduced through photographs\, text and video images. DESCRIPTION:Architectural Photography Exhibition\n「構築環境-もうひとつの日本ガイド」建築写真展\nThe exhibition features 80 examples of buildings\, civil engineering works and landscapes\, etc.\, from all of the prefectures in Japan\, which are introduced through photographs\, text and video images.
