These revisions were not carried out individually for each subject\, but instead were included in a major reform where all areas of learning are being redesigned at the same time using a common framework. As such\, this is a huge topic that has aroused the interest of teachers from all levels of education. \nThat is why we are pleased to invite a member of the curriculum team\, Ms. Stacia Johnson (French Teacher at Port Hardy Secondary School\, Japanese Rep. of BCATML) to talk about the process of redesigning the Japanese (and other languages’) curriculum\, including a summary of the curriculum team meetings. Together with Ms. Johnson we will go over possible strategies and lessons\, as well as some hand-on activities. She will also share ideas on how we can bring the aboriginal content embedded in the new curriculum into our actual teaching. \nRegardless of the level of education you belong to\, we believe that it is valuable for all teachers to understand how elementary and secondary education is changing in BC. \nSession 2: The 3 Things to Teach Your Students about Autonomous Learning\nLecturer: Mr. Yoshifumi Murakami\, Japanese Language Education Advisor\nSession abstract: \nWith the diversity of students and the expanding variety of online resources\, the role of teachers is changing from “providers of information” to “supporters of learning”. If so\, how can teachers support learners’ autonomous learning? I believe there are 3 important elements for autonomous learning: “know about your learning style”\, “know about learning resources” and “connect with other Japanese language speakers”. In this workshop\, after a short introduction of what autonomous learning is\, participants will experience these 3 essential elements firsthand.
