Animated Shorts & Japanese Soundscapes at the Together We Rise Arts Festival
Join us at the inaugural Together We Rise Arts Festival and enjoy an wide-ranging lineup of animated short films as part of the festival’s program of selected digital video works from participating arts organizations from across the Greater Toronto Area. This program will play on a loop inside the Council Cambers of the Scarborough Civic Centre from 12:00PM to 5:00PM on Saturday, June 3rd.
Curated by acclaimed animation filmmaker and educator YAMAMURA Koji, half of the animated shorts were selected to embody the theme of “sound”, while the other half were selected to feature the theme of “sports” (in conjunction with our Japanese Sports Posters exhibition).
Playing in between each animated short are short relaxing soundscape videos that were edited together in tribute to the “100 Soundscapes of Japan.” These sounds and noises were selected by the Ministry of the Environment in 1996 to represent Japan and to combat noise pollution as well as promote environmental protection.
Big cities are glutted with information. Unconscious curiosity, hidden under apparent indifference, invites us into a noisy loop.
