Our Pre-Intermediate course is for people who have completed the elementary levels, and will help students progress from the A2 level to the B1 level of the JF Standard. During this course students will work towards the following goals:
- Can express your feelings/opinions and respond to those of others.
- Can handle trouble and unexpected events.
- Can consciously improve on their ability to converse appropriately and effectively.

For all terms, our Pre-Intermediate (JF Standard A2/B1) course runs Wednesday evenings from 6:30 pm – 9:00 pm (Eastern Time).

In addition to the “Marugoto” textbook content, this course also includes a project called “Introducing Your Hometown”. Students write speeches about their hometown, practicing and polishing them over the term, then they present their speeches to the class. The project schedule can be found in the syllabus above. Examples of written speeches can be found here.

Pre-Intermediate (A2/B1) Course Fees
Each term (Fall, Winter, Spring) costs $390. Payment is accepted only on a Term by Term basis.
Early-Bird Discount: Register and pay between August 1 and August 29 and Term 1 will only cost $360!

Our Pre-Intermediate (A2/B1) course uses the following textbook:
Marugoto: Japanese Language and Culture Pre-Intermediate A2/B1
The Japan Foundation. Sanshuusha, June 2015 ISBN: 978-4-384-05758-4
Each of the above terms (Fall, Winter, Spring) will cover one third of the textbook, and by completing all three terms you will finish the textbook.
※ Textbooks are not included in the fees and students are expected to buy their own copies.
In Canada, physical copies of the Marugoto textbook series are available from Blue Tree Books. You can pick them up in person at the Markham, Ontario location in J-Town, or from their online store at https://bluetreebooks.com/product/marugoto-japanese-language-and-culture-pre-intermediate-a2-b1/.
