The Japan Foundation, Toronto is pleased to announce an open call for a Conference Attendance Grant for graduate students in Canada attending the AAS 2026 conference in Vancouver happening March 2026. The grant will support graduate students wanting to attend the conference to build their network and attend sessions of academic interest.
Please be advised that the support only covers expenses as listed below and a limited number of applicants will be selected.
Eligibility:
- Graduate students (masters or doctoral students) enrolled in a Canadian educational institute.
- Demonstrated academic interest in Japan Studies, with a vision to develop as scholars of Japanese Studies.
- Priority will be given to applicants who do not have other sources of funding.
Coverage:
A total of up to $200 CAD for conference registration at the AAS student member rate.
Application process:
Please submit the following to apply for Japan Foundation’s small travel grants for conference attendance:
- Proof of currently active graduate student status in a Canadian university (i.e., Latest academic transcripts or enrollment letter).
- JFT Application form with signature.
Application Deadline:
Applications will be accepted until 5 pm ET on Friday, January 9, 2026. All applications must be sent via email to Ayeshwini_Lama@jpf.go.jp with subject line “AAS 2026 conference attendance grant application” by the specified deadline.
The Japan Foundation, Toronto will screen applicants and results will be announced in early February 2026.
