JFT Online EdCamp for Japanese Language Teachers

The JFT Online EdCamp for Japanese Language Teachers is a study group where the participants play leading roles.

Discussion topics are decided on by participants on the spot. Participants are welcome to suggest topics related to any problems they may have or something they want to hear others’ opinions on, etc. The goal is not to listen success stories, but for participants to work together to solve problems.

Examples of topics currently requested are:

● Efficient kanji teaching methods for Chinese students
● What do you do if students cannot remember hiragana or katakana at all?
● Recruitment and retention
● Separating kanji-ken and non-kanji-ken students
● Examples of the Communicative Approach, etc.

Whoever suggests the topic decides what language it will be discussed in. Please do not refrain from requesting whichever language you feel most comfortable using: English, French, or Japanese.

EdCamp sessions will not be recorded, so participants can feel free to share negative experiences, etc.

The first 5 minutes will be an explanation of EdCamp and deciding on the topics, and then participants will divide into small groups for two 50-minute discussions.

Language: Although the moderator will use Japanese, each session leader (the person who suggests the topic) will decide the language.

How to participate online:

● The system we use for the workshop is “Zoom”
● If you have a topic you’d like to suggest, please post it in the chat box. Topics will be chosen in the order they are posted; the first four topics will be the topics in the first session, and the next four topics (fifth to eighth) will be topics of the second session.
● The first session will start from around 1:05 pm EDT. Groups will be formed for each topic, and participants will choose which discussion to enter. You can move freely from group to group during the session.
● The second session will start from 2:00 pm EDT
● The last 5 minutes is reserved for sharing feedback.
● Please note: the schedule may change if there are more topics requested during the registration period.

Required gadgets:

● Internet connection
● Mic & Camera
● Earphones or head set

How to use Zoom:

● The link or “Meeting ID” will be sent to those who register in the workshop. The program is downloaded automatically and you can connect the site automatically. It may take more than 5 minutes especially for the first time, please open the link more than 5 minutes ago for those who use the system first time.
● For those who will use smart phones and tablets, please download the application called “ZOOM Cloud Meeting” before the event. After opening the application, input the “Meeting ID”.

JFT日本語教師オンラインEdCampは、参加者が主役の勉強会です。

最先端の成功事例を聞くのではなく、現場の問題を解決するのが目的です。

話し合うトピックはその場で皆さんから受け付けます。困っていることや、他の人の意見を聞きたい人はお気軽にトピックを提案してください。

現在応募があったトピック例は以下の通りです。

● 中国語が母語の学生への効率的漢字教授法
● ひらがなやカタカナを全く覚えない生徒がいる場合、どうしますか。
● Recruitment and retention
● Separating kanji-ken and non-kanji-ken students
● Communicative approachの実例、等

何語で話し合うかはトピックを提案する人が決めます。日本語、英語、フランス語のいずれから選んでください。

録画はされませんので、失敗談の共有なども気軽にできます。

最初に5分の説明とトピックの受付があり、そのあと小グループに分かれたディスカッション（50分）2回を予定しています。

使用言語：モデレーターは簡単な日本語を話しますが、それぞれのセッションは日本語、英語、フランス語のうち、セッションリーダー（トピックを提案した人）が指定します。
参加：オンライン（ご自宅から参加できます）

参加方法：

● Zoomというオンライン会議システムを利用いたします。
● 最初にトピックを受け付けます。話し合ったり相談したいトピックがある人はチャットボックスに投稿してください。先着順です。最初の4名のトピックが第1セッションのトピックになります。5番目から8番目に受付たトピックが第2セッションのトピックになります。
● その後グループに分かれてトピックについて話し合います。好きなグループに入ってください。途中で別のグループに移動してもいいです。
● 2:00（東部時間）から同じように2回目のセッションを行います。
● 最後に5分程度、全体で振り返りを行います。
（申し込みのアンケートでトピックが多そうなときは時間配分の変更があるかもしれません）

必要なもの：

● インターネット接続
● マイクとカメラ （パソコンに内蔵されているものでも大丈夫です。）
● イヤホン（ハウリングを防ぐのに必要です）
● スマホやタブレットの方は専用のアプリが必要です。
（Zoomのアカウントは必要ありません）

Zoomの利用方法：

● パソコンの場合は、お申し込みの後に主催者から送られるリンクを開いてください。小さなプログラムがダウンロードされ、自動的に接続されます。場合によっては5分ほどかかる場合もありますので、初めて利用される場合は5分ほど前にはリンクを開いてください。
● スマートフォンやタブレットの場合は、 予め ZOOM Cloud Meeting のアプリをダウンロードしてください。アプリを開いてから、お申し込みの際に送付される「Meeting ID」 を入力すると、ご参加になれます。
