This spring, we will feature a series of films, CHIKYU FILMS, which will share the stories and people who examine the close relationship to our environment, our earth, or Chikyu 地球 in Japanese.

SCIENCE NINJA TEAM GATCHAMAN: THE MOVIE

Animated feature based on the popular 70’s series about a team of ninja scientists who battle the menace Galactor, the technologically advanced villains trying to control earth’s natural resources. Recurring themes of Gatchaman involve conservation, environmentalism and the responsible use of technology for progress.

Gatchaman debuted in 1972 and was created by Tatsuo Yoshida, and produced by Tatsunoko Productions. The series was made into this animated film, and two direct sequels, Gatchaman II and Gatchaman Fighter. Later, the franchise grew and spawned into many forms and spin-offs. The TV series was adapted into English and known in North America as Battle of the Planets and G-Force.

Hisayuki Toriumi was a director, screenwriter and novelist who frequently collaborated with Tatsunoko Productions. He is credited as contributing to several other anime series and two dozen novels.

Tatsuo Yoshida was the anime pioneer who also created and designed Mach Go Go Go (1966), better known as the original Speed Racer. He animated numerous other series; Space Ace, Judo Boy, Casshern, Hurricane Polymer, Tekkaman, Time Bokan and Yattaman. His production company Tatsunoko, which he founded with his brothers, has gone on to create hundreds of titles since 1965 including popular titles, such as Robotech Macross, Pretty Rhythm,

English dub Trailer, with Japanese opening song. Film will be in Japanese with English subtitles.
