Sayoko, single and in her thirties, lives alone in her  traditional Japanese house- alone, that is, except for the many cats who are inexplicably drawn into her orbit. She passes her time tending to her house, taking care of the family altar of her beloved grandmother, and engaging in eclectic entrepreneurial projects, including renting out cats to lonely people. Like director Naoko Ogigami’s Kamome Diner and Megane, Rent-a-Cat  is a beautifully filmed, low-key comedy that celebrates its iconoclastic characters with offbeat humour.

Directed by Naoko Ogigami
