Presented in English by Toshi Aoyagi, Program Officer at the Japan Foundation, Toronto

In the Edo period, in order for a Kabuki actor’s reputation to achieve national status, the star performers needed  to have an overwhelming success in the three cities of, Osaka, Kyoto, and Edo, where the audience had unique taste in each place. The three courtesans performed by Tamasaburo deliver the fascinating differences of the urban culture of three different cities to the tunes of stringed instruments.

In conjunction with Cinema Kabuki 2022 Toronto
