For her Japan Foundation fellowship, Professor Qin conducted research from 2010-2011 for her research project entitled “Research of Yagi Site Artifacts in Canada Royal Ontario Museum.” She spent half of her time at the Nara National Research Institute for Cultural Properties and the other half sorting out archaeological materials of Yagi site in Hakodate, Hokkaido.
The Japan Foundation Fellowship program helped me gained more experience in Japanese Archaeology, and it also helped me build networks in Japan, which helped me get a job offer in 2013 be an associate professor in Kanazawa University, Japan. And later I become a professor in Fudan University, China in 2018. The half year in Hakodate, Hokkaido left me with a lot of great memories about Japan: the beautiful nature, kind people, delicious food, summer festivals, Hanabi…
I had some volunteer experience in Japan Foundation’s Toronto office when I was in Canada. I miss it. I hope I could become a volunteer again in the future to help more people benefit from this organization and program.
Since her Japan Foundation fellowship, Professor Qin has been the recipient of JSPS’s (Japan Society for the Promotion of Science) Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research, 2015-2018, as well as the Chinese Social Science Fund, Key Project, 2019-2022.
