At the Japan Foundation, Toronto, we offer various Japanese language courses based on the Japan Foundation Standard for Japanese Language Education (or “JF Standard” – for more information, please click here). Through studying in our language courses, you will learn to complete various “Can-do” in Japanese!

Online Marugoto Courses

These are our year-long, weekly courses using the textbook series Marugoto: Japanese Language and Culture, which was developed by the Japan Foundation. With an emphasis on spoken communication and peer-learning, students can progress from Starter (A1) to Intermediate (B1).

Online Teacher-Supported Self-Study Courses

These courses are for learners who would like to primarily study by themselves, but have the support of an instructor and their peers. Students will study and complete assignments on their own within set timeframes, and have an online meeting three times a term to practice Japanese conversation (based on Marugoto topics) with their classmates and instructor. Starter (A1) to Late-Elementary (A2-2) levels are available.

Here at the Japan Foundation, Toronto our Japanese language courses are open to observation to offer teachers and students in Canada a chance to learn about and learn through the Japan Foundation’s Marugoto textbook series as well as the JF Standard for Japanese Language Education.
