Tanabata – July 7, 2018

Show Tanabata at the JFT Library on July 7th, 2018

The 7th day of the 7th month is the traditional day to celebrate Tanabata, known as the star festival in Japan. According to Japanese folklore, on this day two star-crossed lovers can meet in the milky way every year. Visitors to the library enjoyed trying on summer yukata, writing wishes on tanzoku, listening to kamishibai storytelling, fishing for origami and trying on some masks while cooling off by sipping some cold mugi-cha. The kamishibai storytelling, the Story of Tanaba 七夕物語, was read by Toshiki Mori. The kamishibai picture book is available for circulation from the JFT library, along with many other kamishibai titles.
