The inaugural Pride Asian Film Festival (PAFF) will present Shunga: The Lost Japanese Erotica for its Canadian premiere.
Shunga is a form of explicit Japanese erotic art which reached its height between 1600 and 1900. The act of sex in shunga is consensual and full of pleasure for men and women, adults of all ages. The situations often brim with generous humor and invite laughter. The work celebrates sexual ecstasy with no hangups.
This documentary follows in the spirit of skilled shunga artisans in presenting the beauty, the detailed craft, and the extraordinary imagination that created these powerful scrolls and prints.
