In conjunction with the upcoming live Hiromi concert at the TD Toronto Jazz Festival on June 28, we will be screening this rare gem of a piano duet recorded in 2007 at Tokyo Blue Note between legendary Chick Corea and Hiromi.
The masterwork of two remarkable pianists from different generations and cultures transcend all boundaries with an unforgettable mix of exuberance and passion.
The film will begin with a special introduction by TD Toronto Jazz Festival Artistic Director Josh Grossman.
Chic Corea is a 22-time GRAMMY winner, prolific composer and keyboard virtuoso from the US. Many of his compositions are considered jazz standards. As a member of Miles Davis’s band in the late 1960s, he participated in the birth of the electric jazz fusion movement. In the 1970s he formed Return to Forever. Along with Herbie Hancock, McCoy Tyner, and Keith Jarrett, he has been described as one of the major jazz piano voices to emerge in the post-John Coltrane era.
