Edo Hyaku Talk Part II: Bridges Over The Sumida River, Asakusa, Yoshiwara

Edo Hyaku, One Hundred Famous Views of Edo series was the creation in the last three years (1856-1858) of Hiroshige’s life, majestically concluding his entire artistic career. Aside from the vast scale of over one hundred prints, the series is impressive as a reflection of Hiroshige’s personal, rather intimate, affection to the city of Edo, current Tokyo. Hiroshige expressed his nostalgia and admiration to Edo, where he was born, lived, and built his artistic success. Through his memories of young days and recent visits, Toshi Aoyagi, also from Tokyo, intimately relates to the city described in Hiroshige’s works.
