Japanese Graphic Design History Backwards

Moving from the contemporary moment to the 1960s, Ian Lynam examines Japanese graphic design history by looking at the work of contemporary Japanese graphic designers, their influences, and how each fits into a greater continuum. Included are perspectives on the design of the upcoming Tokyo Olympics, speculative labor, and authenticity.

Ian Lynam is a Tokyo-based designer operating at the intersection of graphic design, design education and design research. Originally hailing from New York, Ian Lynam has a BS in Graphic Design from Portland State University and an MFA in Graphic Design from CalArts. Ian Lynam is Co-Chair and faculty at Vermont College of Fine Arts in the MFA Graphic Design program (http://www.vcfa.edu/graphic-design). He is faculty in Tokyo at Meme Design School (http://www.memedesign.org/meme_design_school/) and faculty at Temple University Japan (http://www.tuj.ac.jp/).
