Live Fashionably or Die

長編記憶映画 神様たちの街

Directed by Yukio Tanaka (2016) 75 minutes

Documentary with an uplifting message about elderly society featuring a fashion show with senior citizens walking the runway. Director Tanaka Yukio has dealt with numerous minority issues in films including ITECHO and Mapping the Future, Nishinari.

Kobe City was profoundly traumatized by the Great Hanshin earthquake. The Hyogo Modern Senior Fashion Show began ten years after the earthquake and held its 11th show in 2015. Elderly people who have gone through hard times get to bask in the limelight once a year.

Ikigai Film Series

What keeps you going? How do you stay happy, and live a long life? These are some universal questions that will be explored in this film series that looks into the concept of IKIGAI. In Japanese, IKIGAI生き甲斐 essentially means “reason for being” or the thing that makes your life worthwhile, and we will catch a glimpse of how IKIGAI plays a role in the lives of remarkable Japanese people in these four documentaries.
