Celebrate Pride with us this summer by watching four films in the PRIDE FILM SERIES that look at LGBTQ diversity in Japan.
The first full-length feature in five years from director Ryosuke Hashiguchi, known for gay-themed films like A Touch of Fever and Like Grains of Sand.
Asako has always avoided deep relationships, but after a chance encounter with gay couple Katsuhiro and his partner Naoya, she feels compelled to have a child with Katsuhiro through artificial insemination.
Naoya and Katsuhiro are flabbergasted when she makes the proposition, but gradually begin to open up to the idea of having a baby.
Their various friends and family members try to lecture them on what a family is, but Naoya and Katsuhiro have already left old ideas of family behind, and their families’ words fall on deaf ears. Or so they think–as opinions clash, they find their own new vision of family.
Starring Kazuya Takahashi, Seiichi Tanabe and Reiko Kataoka. The music is by Bobby McFerrin and Yo-Yo Ma.
