Join us for an exciting and unique opportunity to meet Kenjiro Monji, former ambassador of Japan to Canada, and his team of four delegates from a variety of backgrounds. This special program offers attendees a chance to engage in dialogue with the ambassador and his delegation as a way of building friendship between our two nations.
The Walk in Canada, Talk on Japan program aims to further develop the Japan Canada relationship by increasing understanding of Japan in Canada via grassroots exchange. Supported by the Prime Minister’s Office of Japan, teams of Japanese citizens from all walks of life, led by former high ranking Japanese diplomats, travel to Canada to share their perspectives and engage in open discussion with members of local communities. Each delegate will deliver a presentation about a distinctive aspect of Japan based on their own unique expertise in the public or private sector.
Kenjiro Monji, Delegation Leader
Former diplomat Kenjiro Monji has served mainly in the areas of treaties, national security, and cultural exchange in such posts as Deputy Director General of the Treaties Bureau 2003 Director General for International Affairs at the Ministry of Defense 2004 and Director General for Public Diplomacy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs 2008 He has held ambassadorial posts in Iraq 2007 Qatar 2010 at UNESCO 2013 and in Canada 2015 Ambassador Monji continues to promote soft power diplomacy in such areas as pop culture and Japanese sake, and is one of 78 people worldwide nominated by the Japan Sake Brewers Association Junior Council to receive the title of “Sake Samurai He is currently a Senior Advisor at Fujitsu Limited.
Keita Kakehashi
Corporate Officer and HR Director for Asia and key global HR projects at Nippon Sheet Glass Co., Ltd., one of the world’s largest glass manufacturers. Eight year secondment to offices in the U.S. states of Kentucky and New York. Currently chairs an Inclusion & Diversity steering committee.

Miho Kurosaki
Head of Japan and Korea Research for Bloomberg New Energy Finance. Has served as a committee member on the Climate Change Advisory Panel for Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Jonathan Berkshire Miller
Holds the concurrent roles of Distinguished Fellow with the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada, Senior Fellow with the Asian Forum Japan, and Senior Fellow with the East West Institute. Currently a Senior Fellow with the Japan Institute of International Affairs and also Deputy Director and Senior Fellow at the Ottawa based MacDonald Laurier Institute.

Saki Matsunaka
A second year medical science student at Fukui University, located close to her hometown of Tsuruga a city also known as the “Port of Humanity”. Attended study programs in Wisconsin and at the University of Kansas
