The Superlative Artistry of Japan exhibition brought to The Japan Foundation, Toronto fine examples of the artisans of the Meiji period (1868-1912). In our showcase we now have a vase of Satsuma ceramic and two pieces of Cloisonné-Enamel. Back in April we photographed these pieces and experienced stunning moments of discoveries. When you look at the details of intricate craft works with the camera’s lenses, it feels as if an alternate universe unfolds in front of you. The complexity and accuracy of Meiji artisans might have been beyond the level of human eye. Let’s zoom into the Meiji artisans’ universe!
