Monday August 24 | 7:30pm – 8:30pm ET | Online

Let’s enjoy reading in Japanese and talk about the books!

What is “Tadoku”?

The word “ta” () means “a lot” and “doku” () means “to read”, so “tadoku” literally means “read-a-lot”. You can read books suitable to your Japanese reading level. Start with easy books you can enjoy without using a dictionary!

For this book club event, you will read online books at your own pace on your own schedule before the session, and prepare Tadoku Journal entries. During the book club event, we will start with a 5-minute introduction and then provide 20 minutes of silent reading. Finally, you will be divided into small groups to share about the books you read, either in English or Japanese, for 30 minutes.

Participation Requirements: Basic Japanese proficiency preferred.  Advanced-level Japanese learners and native Japanese speakers are welcome to join too!

Please refer to the Guidance for Online Tadokukai and Reading Journal files for more details! Even if you are not available to join this book club event, you are more than welcome to read the online books listed in the guidance file!

Deadline: August 19, while spots are available.  As this event will be held in the JFT’s Virtual Study Space (VSS), new users of this platform are required to register for and attend an orientation by August 19 – please register for VSS here: https://tr.jpf.go.jp/language/jft-virtual-study-space

*To provide for an effective sharing session, this event is limited to 24 participants. In case you need to cancel your registration, please email us at koza_jftoronto@jpf.go.jp, so that the spot can be provided to another participant. Thank you for your cooperation!
